Playing professional
basketball has always been a dream of tribal member, Anthony Brown.
He has been playing basketball since kindergarten, and has had
his dream come true. He signed a professional contract with Hart
Sports Management to play basketball in the European League.
Brown is a 6’7” forward playing for Team Badajoz,
a LEB Bronze League in Badajoz, Spain.
He grew up in Stillwater, OK, and attended Northeastern Oklahoma
College, studying Kinesiology, and graduated from University of
Central Oklahoma.
His ultimate goal is to play for the NBA, and he is utilizing
this current opportunity as a stepping-stone to the top.“
I am the only Native American on the team; everyone speaks Spanish,
and sometimes it is difficult to communicate, but I have worked
hard all my life, and nothing is going to hold me back,”
stated Brown.Family and friends know Brown as a humble, and kind
hearted, person. He has always strived to be a positive role model
for native youth. During high school he was a member of the Amateur
Athletic Union, and played on summer league teams organized in
Concho. In 2003 he was named MVP while playing on a Concho team
that won a championship in Phoenix, AZ.
“It is all very exciting, sometimes I feel overwhelmed with
joy to have such a successful child. I have encouraged, and supported
my son to believe in himself, and to go for it,” stated
Anthony’s mother.
Brown is the son of Gloria Brown, and the late David Brown. The
grandson of Griffin Rednose the late Carolyn Thunderbull, and
the great-grandson of Nellie Thunderbull. He has one brother,
Myrean, and three sisters, Precious, Destiny, and Caress.
